Lush Haul

I've been seeing a lot of posts and videos about lush's new autumn and winter products and since it's getting colder it's nice to heat up and relax in a lovely smelling bath! So when I went shopping this weekend I made sure we stopped by to see what I could get myself!

First of all I got 'Northern Lights' bathbomb which caught my eye because of the shape of it. I love the little stars inside it and the fact your bath goes purple and blue! It says it smells like jasmine and ylang ylang which I didn't think I liked but apparently I do because this smells lovely!

Obviously attracted by the purple colours I also got 'Phoenix Rising', this is one for when your skin needs a little hydration. It contains shea and cocoa butters so you'll come out with your skin feeling lovely and soft and the hint of cinnamon gives it a more seasonal feel!

Nearly every time I go into Lush I buy 'Sex Bomb' it's my all time favourite and not having one around just makes me sad! This is another slight jasmine smelling bath bomb, it just makes me relaxed every time I smell it and it turns the bath a pink colour.

This is one I've been wanting to try for a while it's the Magic Wand Bubble Bar. What attracted me the most is that it's reusable, you just run it under a hot tap to create bubbles in your bath then leave it for another time. And to top it all off it smells like Snow Fairy which is another favourite and I will be buying a bigger bottle this year to keep me going!

Another one I've been wanting to try for a while is the 'So White' bath bomb. I think this is another one that will quickly become a favourite and I'll definitely be buying the shower gel version! It says it has an apple scent which there is a slight hint of but I always think it smells really fresh! It really fizzy in the bath and leaves it white with a hint of pink. I think it's also quite big so if you wanted to you could cut it in half to make it last a bit longer.

The last thing I bought was Cinders, to me this is the most Christmas smelling bath bomb. Apparently inspired by fireside gatherings, it smells of cinnamon, almond oils, orange oils and popping candy. I haven't used this one before so I'm not sure what the popping candy part will be like but I'm looking forward to finding out!

3 Quick and Easy Halloween Recipes

Although I've already said Halloween isn't my favourite holiday, if there is something I do like it's themed food! I was baking these with children so they're pretty easy and it's nothing that requires a lot of time or skills.

The first is some Chocolate Bat Cookies. For this you'll need

  • 125g of softened butter.
  • 85g of icing sugar.
  • 1 large egg yolk.
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of milk
  • 175g of plain flour
  • 50g of cocoa powder
  • Milk chocolate to spread on the wings once cooked and hundreds and thousands.

First of all heat your oven to 180°C, beat the butter and sugar together in a bowl. Then beat in the egg yolk, vanilla and milk until it's creamy and finally sift in the flour and cocoa. Once you've mixed it all together properly you want to shape the dough into a disc shape, cover it in cling film and leave it in the fridge for 15 minutes.

After the 15 minutes is up, grab a chopping board and dust it with flour to prevent sticking when you roll it out. The dough can be as thick or thin as you want its really about your preference. I got this bat cookie cutter because I'm really not artistic enough to cut it out by hand! Cut out as many as you can fit, sit them on some baking parchment and pop them into the oven for 10 minutes! Melt some milk chocolate while you wait, once they're out spread the chocolate over the wings, sprinkle the hundreds and thousands and add some eyes and you're done!

The next are some simple Strawberry Ghosts which I actually did quickly while the dough for the cookies was in the fridge! All you'll need for this one is:
  • White Chocolate
  • Milk Chocolate
  • Strawberries
  • Chocolate Chips

This is really pretty simple but really tasty, who doesn't like chocolate and strawberries! First of all you'll need to melt your white chocolate and cover your strawberries in it, leave them to harder while you melt some milk chocolate or you can do what I did and use some left over chocolate from the bats. Once you've done that add the chocolate chips for eyes and the chocolate for the mouths, pop them in the fridge to harden properly and they're ready to eat at any time.

The last quick recipe is just some Cupcakes with Halloween decorations. Ingredients for this are:
  • 125g of Self Raising Flour
  • 125g of Butter
  • 125g of Caster sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/2 a tsp of Vanilla extract

Sreheating your oven to 180°C, put all your ingredients in a bowl and beat it together with an electric whisk until it's completely smooth and creamy. Divide the mixture between as many cases as you want -  I used 12 and that gave me good size cakes. Bake the cakes for 15 to 20 minutes until they've risen then leave them to cool. Whisk the icing sugar together with some hot water then decorate them as you want! I use this recipe any time I'm doing cupcakes as they're so easy and quick and perfect for nearly any occasion and they are so delicious, I could honestly eat all 12 in one day!

Hopefully this was useful for some last minute treats! What are your favourite Halloween recipes?

Top 5 Skincare Products

It has taken me a while to go through multiple different brands and products to get to a couple of staple items that I know work for me and that I can use over and over. Although I still want to buy new products if I hear good things about it! Obviously I still get the odd few spots but these products have definitely helped keep my skin clearer than it was before.

The St. Ives apricot scrub is something that's been around for a long time but I hadn't got around to trying it until recently. I use it every other day and my skin always feels a lot softer after using it, the microbeads are good for getting rid of any dirt and preventing spots which is always a good thing!

The body shop 'Vitamin E overnight Serum-in-oil' is an 8 hour oil that replenishes moisture you lose over night. Although I tend to have oily skin using this doesn't make it worse in the slightest, I normally put this on before my moisturiser at night and it definitely makes my skin feel softer when I wake up. I've also recently purchased the Vitamin E Sink in Moisture Mask which is also amazing so I would really recommend getting some of their products.

This is the No. 7 Pore Vacuum Mask. I got this just out of curiosity to see what it would be like and I love to try new face masks and I was really impressed. You apply it onto cleansed skin for about 10 minutes and then peel it off, which I find so satisfying! And as horrible as it sounds you can honestly feel your pores being cleared of all the dirt. I've only used this a handful of times but I will definitely be buying it again, it really has helped to keep my skin from getting spots.

Another body shop purchase is this Camomile silky cleansing oil, it is the first and only cleansing oil I've ever purchased but I don't think I'll be switching to another any time soon. This is perfect way to take off all your make up at the end of the day, not sure how I survived up until I bought it!

Have you guessed that I like the body shops skin care yet? This is the Vitamin C Cleansing Polish, it's a lovely face wash but I have to say the smell isn't what I thought it would of been. In the bottle it smells faintly of oranges but once you start rubbing it on your face. For me it's a bit overpowering even though I usually love The Body Shop's orange soaps and lip balms, this is just a bit too much. Aside from that I do really like this, it gets any extra that my cleanser hasn't as it has the tiniest little beads in it but it isn't as rough as a scrub.

Wish List

I'm not a big Halloween person, it's probably my least favourite holiday but as it's nearing the end of October, I'm getting more into the Christmas spirit every day! I am definitely that person who gets excited too way early but it's only 9 weeks away which isn't long at all! So I've put together a little wish list that I'm hoping to buy myself or get treated to (if I'm lucky) over the next few months!

1. Charlotte Tilbury - Luxury Palette, The Dolce Vita £38. I think this looks like the perfect palette to get into the Christmas spirit from the cranberry red to the gold glitter. It is one of those palettes that allows you to use it for a day time look then just by adding another shade and blending it out you have your night time make up done!

2. Whistles medium clutch - £60 - I love the Whistles bags, but this clutch especially as it is so simple with just the gold detailing on the zip and the croc-effect leather. It's perfect for an evening out as it's big enough that you'll be able to fit everything you need in but not big enough that it's a hassle to carry it around all night.

3. Missguided Velvet Kimono - £29.99 - I've been looking at this kimono for ages, I think it's the perfect way to add something to a plain black outfit and it comes in handy on a night out as you can easily fold it away into your bag and then slip it on later so you wont be cold!

4. The Body Shop Advent Calander - £50 - This is a bit of a splurge for an advent calander but it's something different and something I've been wanting to try to replace a chocolate one which isn't really exciting me anymore. The Body Shop always have really nice products out at Christmas anyway and it will come in a cute miniature size so I definitely think it would be worth the money!

5. Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revoution Lipstick in Glastonberry - £23 - I've seen these lipsticks around a lot recently espeically from all the bigger bloggers and so far I haven't seen one bad review which makes me want to try it even more! The shade Glastonberry is a really lovely deep purple, I already love my MAC lipstick in Rebel so really want to give this a go!

6. Boux Avenue Hooded Robe - £45 - There isn't a word to describe how soft and cosy this feels, I was in the other day and I really didn't want to leave this behind. It would be perfect to snuggle up in when its cold and dark outside and I definitely think this will be purchased before November is over, I need it in my life!

A Few Autumn Favourites

Autumn is my favourite season, when you get the cooler mornings but by the afternoon the sun is shining. I love the berry colours and dark reds of autumn make-up and I've always preferred them to the corals and brighter colours that comes with spring and summer. So I've put together a few of my favourites things that I've bought over September and October.

Berlin Street Style by Angelika Taschen is a book I got about a month ago in Urban Outfitters, unfortunately I think it's sold out online just now but I'm sure you could get it from Amazon or somewhere similar. I've seen Paris style books like this before but they didn't really interest me as much as this one, maybe because Berlin is somewhere I've been wanting to go to for ages. It gives a lot of insight into the more causal but stylish trends a lot of German woman tend to wear as well as cafe and hotel recommendations!

Colour drama by Maybelline - I picked these up in Boots a few weeks ago as they reminded me of the NARS Satin Lip Pencil which I got last year but these are a lot cheaper. I chose the colours Berry Much and Red Essential and I think they're amazing, they can be used as a lip liner as well as a lipstick. It has a good staying power and is a matte finish which I love!

Kate Matte Lasting Finish by Rimmel - Another purchase from Boots is this Kate Moss lipstick in the shade 107 which is a really nice deep red. I bought this as a kind of an impulse buy as I wasn't really looking for another red lipstick but I'd heard good things about these so thought I'd give it a go and I'm glad I did, I've ended up wearing it almost every day. It's nice and creamy so it doesn't dry out your lips and it smells nice which is always a bonus!

Sephora smart liner - This is something I got in Marbella over summer but hadn't got around to using until recently. The nice thing about this eyeliner is the shape of the handle, it makes it really easy to use if you're wanting to do a cat eye and the black is also really intense. Although I do see it drying up quite quickly and it struggles to go across some eye shadows that I've had on which means I normally use a separate eyeliner for a night out.

Lastly, are my glasses from Specsavers, stupidly I left mine on holiday and when it was time to go back to college it was essential for me to get a new pair. They were a completely different style to what I had before but it turns out I prefer them a lot more to my old glasses, they seem to suit my face shape more too and it was buy one get one free when I went as well which means I have a spare if I ever lose them again!
